Daniel Barnes recently joined Nicholsons Chartered Accountants as a Management Accountant working within the Bookkeeping team. He is based at the firm’s Lincoln Office.
Specialising in cash flow forecasting, Daniel brings with him a wealth of experience, especially in the construction and healthcare sectors.
After leaving school, Daniel took a job as a forklift truck driver, which helped him pay for his bookkeeping studies. Following his studies, Daniel was fortunate to be offered a position in the accounts department with a manufacturing company, where he managed the day to day purchase / sales and bank ledgers / recs. VAT, EC Sales and intrastat.
Within a short period of time, his responsibilities increased, and he started dealing with daily cash flow forecasts and updating them to actual. Following the departure of the finance director, Daniel was left with one part-time purchase ledger to help him run the accounts function for the company. This involved running the management accounts, collating the data for payroll as the payroll function was outsourced.
When the new finance director came on board, he increased the staffing in the accounts team and left Daniel to run the day to day accounts function, as well as producing the monthly accounts and liaising with the auditors for year end.
After a year Daniel moved to a bigger manufacturing company to gain more experience. Daniel took on the responsibilities of the management accounts each month, the full payroll function for 80 employees, using sage payroll to sort out wages, as well as the VAT and EC sales and intrastat.
Daniel believes that this extraordinary opportunity of running such a vital department almost single handed so early on in his career, has given him confidence and determination, he likes nothing more than to challenge himself.
Away from work Daniel likes to play football, but true to himself he sets his challenges and has completed the 3-peak challenge.
