Stephanie Smith joined Nicholsons Chartered Accountants in 2004 and is based at the Lincoln office. She also visits clients at the firm’s Market Rasen office as well as going to their premises.
After graduating, Stephanie continued temping at the county council, but also took time out to do a bit of travelling before starting her first “proper job” at Nicholsons. She worked under the supervision of Kay Archer, who was a director at the firm at that time.
With no accounting experience, Stephanie and four of her colleagues started their chartered studies. She is now FCA qualified and is a Business Advisory Manager and one of the key members of the XERO team.
Stephanie works with the corporate finance team on forecasts and valuations, as well as general accounts, corporation and personal tax, along with VAT returns and management accounts. She is on hand to do XERO demonstrates for clients and at exhibitions as well as implementing the software and training clients.
With Making Tax Digital going live earlier this year, Stephanie has been busy working on the transition, organising training for both clients and staff.
Although initially a daunting challenge, she feels that Nicholsons have managed this well through a fantastic team effort. Clients have also made the implementation much smoother by being open to new methods of bookkeeping and should see the added benefits of this over the coming years.
When not at work Stephanie enjoys being out of doors, especially walking or climbing. She has twice completed the 60-mile Pennine Way Challenge and more recently she took part in the 100-mile Lincoln Castle 2 Coast 2 Castle bike ride, along with her colleagues. In 2017 Stephanie took on another walking challenge and walked 60 miles across the South Downs.
